Rally in Singur today

Statesman News Service KOLKATA, 27 December

The Singur Krishi Jomi Raksha Committee (SKJRC) will take out a rally from Bajemelia in Singur tomorrow to draw public attention back to Singur .

“Even though prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC are still in force in Singur, we decided to organise the rally because Miss Banerjee’s hunger strike is now getting more importance than the peasants’ movement in Singur,” said Mr Shankar Jana, convener, SKJRC, today.

Police will not prevent the rally apprehending trouble. Farmers will counter the CPI-M’s claim that the movement in Singur is being carried out by outsiders, Mr Jana said. 3,000 people of Singur are likely to participate in the rally. They will also demand a judicial probe into the murder of Tapasi Malik, .

Mr Jana said: “The farmers are still in the dark about the identities of the assailants as well as the motive for the murder. Officers of both the CID and CBI have failed to unravel the mystery.”
